It allows them time for homework, as well as free time for physical activities and for fellowship with other children.
At this school-age children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating child care environment that promotes optimal physical Development and Wellness, watching them try new activities, cheering them on at athletic events and applauding their accomplishments are usually some of the high points for most parents, at this age growth is slow but steady, They have gained control of their major muscles, most children have a good sense of balance, They enjoy performing physical tricks, testing muscle strength and skills like skip, run, tumble.
Chidren at this age have an intuitive grasp of logical concepts in some areas. However, there is still a tendency to focus attention on one aspect of an object while ignoring others, it is important that parents know what to expect from their child as they develop and to be sure that the expectations they may have for their child at a given age are realistic. They need opportunities to share thoughts and reactions. At this age childrern see things as either "black or white." and have interests which change often. They are easily motivated and eager to try new things.
School-age children should be encouraged to try different creative activities, these may include working on a hobby or art project, or playing a musical instrument. They have to discover their interest at their own pace. All activities should be appropriate for this age, as children continue to grow, they will gain new and exciting abilities, the following are some of the common milestones children may reach in this age group: ability to paint and draw, use tools (i.e., hammer, screwdriver), Writes stories or letters and dancing, children are beginning to become more critical of their own art work.
A very important part of growing up is the ability to interact and socialize with others. During the school-age years, parents will see a transition in their children as they move from playing alone to having multiple friends and social groups. While friendships become more important, children are still looking for friendship with the parents and like being part of a family, As school-age children develop and begin to create their individual identities outside of the home, they still need the help, support, and guidance of their parents so that they can succeed in socialization with other children.
